Connecting to the Internet with your computer

Dear Students:

Welcome back for the semester! In an attempt to help you get your computer connected to the Internet quicker please see the following notes below.

As in the past you are still required to have an active anti-virus running on your computer if you want to connect to the TLU network. Unlike in the past you do not have to have TLU's version of McAfee (it is still available free if you would like on MyTLU https://my.tlu.edu/ICS/IT/ (main page off the IT tab)

The TLU IT Help Desk is available to help you if you get stuck but we strongly recommend you try to connect yourself! It will be a lot faster and you can avoid long wait times. The process has been simplified and is designed to be self-service. You do not have to bring your computer over to the Help Desk to get connected.

Help Desk hours :

Monday - Thursday - 8am-7pm
Friday - 8am-5pm
Saturday/Sunday - Help desk available via e-mail: ishelp@tlu.edu

Remember: While wireless coverage has been expanded TLU IT does not guarantee that it will work in your residence hall room. You are to use the hardwire connection for that. Wireless is set for the common areas, and academic spaces.

If you will be living on campus:

A) Do before you come to campus

B) Do when you are in your on-campus room

  • Plug your computer into your network port with your Ethernet cable and register your computer (you will need your TLU username and password). Follow instructions. If for some reason you cannot get a connection, try your roomates port and/or Ethernet cable to see if it is a problem with your network port.
  • You will be connecting to wireless network: TLU_Stud.

If you are commuting to campus :

Have a good semester!
