Description
This course introduces students to the principles and practices of nursing care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, with a complimentary focus on the care of the healthy and at-risk newborn. Emphasizing a holistic, family centered approach, the course covers the physiological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of maternal and newborn health. Students will gain knowledge and skills related to prenatal assessments, labor and delivery management, postpartum care, and newborn evaluation and interventions. Key topics include reproductive health, fetal development, intrapartum and postpartum complications, neonatal adaptation to extrauterine life, and the promotion of breastfeeding and bonding. Clinical and simulation experiences are integrated to enhance critical thinking, communication, and hands-on skills in diverse care settings. Prerequisite: NURS 551.
